Well, the 'tripping' correction is now over', so I am off to the world of subtlety and the second colour correction, an enhancement rather than a straight change of the colours within the film.
The reason I went tripping on the first colour correction was to test out all the tools available. Now, on this more subtle one, I will use correction to enhance and add a richness to the colours within the picture. So there will be no artificial additions (if the hedge is brown and leafless with bark, then it stays that way) but improvements in the true colours themselves (red seems to do particularly well when 'spiced up').
I admit to being a super geek...

Butchering the Secondaries
(Before)
Now, I actually do not know what I am doing while I am correcting the colour for my short film. Which is why I have decided to go, for the first take, along the path of the 'butcher of brightness' and all such technicolour marvels. Luckily, being an experimental short in itself, I have taken some liberties with my first attempt at Colour Correction. By tonight I would have finished the 'butchered version' and then it will be onto the (much more difficult) subtle colour variation.
Anyway, Secondary Colour correction is much more detailed. Primaries affect the whole shot, secondaries, the part of the shot you want to affect, either a particular part, or if the shot is moving, a particular colour grain(s). It is more subtle, but distictly noticeable, especially when in HD:

Anyway, enough geekery, I'm off to finish it off!

Colour Correction
At the moment, the editing has finished, as that is really the easy bit. But...now comes the hard bit. Correcting the colour.
I am doing three different types of colour correction, seeing as it is my first time at attempting it. One is an unsubtle approach to correction, blatantly distorting the image to my desire. Second is ging to be a more subtle approach, and third (the most difficult) will be a subtle change from colour to as close to black and white as I can get. That is what I hope to be the final version of the ilm piece.
Anyways, for now, here is a little look at the 'non-subtle' version.

Tax is Taxing 2
Well, El Director is 90% of the way though the tax form, so I am a little less stressed...

Now onto the filming!
I have decided to round off my Citizen Journalism for a while to concentrate more on the filming, especially as the next few months will be critical. I am one of the most distracted film makers out there and so I am hanging up my pens for a while to really go all out on the filming side. It is again, one of the reasons why I am also giving up internet bumpf, but not yet blogging.
However, the article is a good one and over the past year, I am proud to have written some great articles for OhmyNews covering a wide variety of subjects, many of which would hav never been covered in the mainstream media, such is the power and breadth of Citizen Journalism.

And so that's it, clearing out the clutter and going for the future. While 2008 was successful, I felt that The Paint had stagnated during the final quarter of the year. The energy and direction had gone from the project. And as I fundamentally believe in the idea of venerating milk (in a strictly secular way) and sultry Brazillian dancers (because they are truly a divine creation) I want to make sure that 2009 has real progress not just for my sake but also for all the people who have believed in the project so fa.r It is going to be a tough year ahead, so here goes!

Shooting then Editing
Yesterday was one of those awful days of shooting. I will not go into the details, but I hate shooting before I go to work. I don't bloody like it! My mind is not on the more important job, instead it is on the cash provider...grr!
So, will be booking holiday in March (hopefully) so I can properly shoot Jay and Kay then.
Now, the edit...

Shooting...
More filming yesterday. Only a few hours, but in sickness and in health I plug on. I want to finish this short quickly, before I get onto the real meat of CWP in February. I need the rest, but sometimes, when you got an itch, you just got to scratch!

El Director gets animating
Just testing out the different animation speeds for the upcoming CWP Short film (to be shot in Feb).
Real geek time, but the stop motion part can be shot either 1 frame or 3 frames for a single 'exposure' (a bit of a false word as this is digital, but who's counting). It makes stop motion easier than having to physically go to the 'still camera settings', but it is still tedious. Most of my Feb will be spent wth milk bottles in the great ourdoors...
Oh well, the challenge is there...
