Witty service will be restored here in July. Wait for it...in the meanwhile, I am busily correcting a lot of colours. After the initial sweep, I am taking a second look. Not so much correcting the colours, but mellowing them out a bit. I may have over corrected some clips, which is why it is important that I take a second look at the project...

Finished?

It has been one very, very long day, but I think it is safe to say, that I have finished correcting the colours for Jay and Kay Save the World.

Eight days, not bad. Still, I will go over the corrections once again tomorrow to make sure everything is to my liking. I need a little time out just to make sure everything is constant throughout the film, with no sudden changes or blips in the lighting levels. But for now, I am going to leave this computer for a bit. It has driven me nutty, sitting here all day long!

Colour Correction - Again!

I am back correcting the colour for the new adventure involving Jay and Kay.

Go on, take a look at the before picture from my colour correction suite:



A beautiful shot, that perfectly highlights Jay's legs. The opening shot, very artistic etc. But I want to enhance it, to make it 'more. So have a look at the after shot:



Here the pic is much brighter. You suddenly notice the skateboard in the background. The walls and the foot of the chair have more depth. The brightness of the white skirting board has been reduced slightly. And the trousers have been given a deeper shade of block, if you could get any deeper. The shot still concentrates on Jay's legs, but now, everything is enhanced a little bit. This happens on all films and will definitely be happening on mine.

So, that's the director's task for the next ten days or so!

The Colours Continue

Well, the 'tripping' correction is now over', so I am off to the world of subtlety and the second colour correction, an enhancement rather than a straight change of the colours within the film.

The reason I went tripping on the first colour correction was to test out all the tools available. Now, on this more subtle one, I will use correction to enhance and add a richness to the colours within the picture. So there will be no artificial additions (if the hedge is brown and leafless with bark, then it stays that way) but improvements in the true colours themselves (red seems to do particularly well when 'spiced up').

Colour Correction

At the moment, the editing has finished, as that is really the easy bit. But...now comes the hard bit. Correcting the colour.

I am doing three different types of colour correction, seeing as it is my first time at attempting it. One is an unsubtle approach to correction, blatantly distorting the image to my desire. Second is ging to be a more subtle approach, and third (the most difficult) will be a subtle change from colour to as close to black and white as I can get. That is what I hope to be the final version of the ilm piece.

Anyways, for now, here is a little look at the 'non-subtle' version.
