At the Deep Fried Film Festival

It was well worth heading up to Glasgow to watch the Deep Fried Film Festival which was held in Coatbridge. Now in its 6th year, this suburb of Glasgow was the first place in the UK that got to see CWP - Jay and Kay Save the World on the bigger screen!

And as it was my first visit to Glasgow, I thoroughly enjoyed the city. A fantastic place to be and I would take any excuse to head there again...

Now on Sunday, it is off to Poland for Quest Europe! A bit of deja vu, especially when compared to last year...

Caution Wet Paint in Scotland - UK Premiere!

Oh yes, I will be here, in Coatbridge on Thursday to see Jay and Kay Save the World's UK cinematic debut. I am so looking forward to this, and anyone in the area, come, join me and have fun!

As for now, I am busy, there is a lot of things that a director has to do before heading off to Poland at the end of the week!

Polish TV!

As part of the promotion of < ahref="http://www.quest-europe.eu/News.html">Quest Europe and its screening there, Jay and Kay Save the World! the whole movie was screened last night on Polish TV! Rah! You can check out RTV Lubuska here.

Yes, I will be in Zielona Gora in a couple of weeks for Quest Europe, and next week is the excitement of our UK premiere in Scotland, which I will also be attending!

Caution Wet paint - The Kinkiness restarts!

As Jay and Kay Save the World has come to the end of its festival run, it is now time to focus on the next stage of CWP's development. I will be keeping you informed on what I do.

First the process that started development last year of a complimentary TV series to prequel 'The Movie'; to lodge themselves in between the webisodes and the movie with regards to the cannon is well underway.

I will also (finally) put Jay and Kay Save the World online in the next two weeks. This is part of the strategy of developing the TV series. Save the World is the most professional looking (and funniest) of the CWP series so far. Despite the fact it was done with a budget of ZERO! Note that, nothing!

Okay, maybe I am blowing my own trumpet, but I am incredibly proud of Save the World. It has gone international to film festivals abroad, which has been great for me as a director to see how audiences outside the UK react to CWP. Abd it is time for the rest of the world to freely see Save the World. Give me a couple of weeks. A redesign of the website is also happening.

Caution Wet Paint and Irfan at Quest Europe!

Good news everyone! A special screening of Jay and Kay Save the World and Irfan will take place at the Quest Europe Film Festival on Saturday 27th August at the Kino Nasa (the Nasa Cinema) in Zielona Gora. Now as you might remember, I visited this town during my first trip to Poland all that time ago in January...



The really excellent thing about the Quest Europe Film Festival is that I am also to be a jury member. This is building upon the success last year at the BUSHO film festival. Scary, the shoe is on the other foot and now I got to see the films and judge them on their merits. More adventures to come...

Caution WetPaint - UK Premiere!

Jay and Kay Save the World gets its UK premiere in August at the Deep Fried Film Festival:

CWP at the Golden Knight Festival in Kursk, Russia!

Excellent news everyone! Caution Wet Paint has a new set of festivals this year to head to! In June we are off to Russia as we feature in the Golden Knight Film Festival in the city of Kursk. This has got to be our most exotic destination to date and it is a fantastic feeling to break into the world's largest country! (June 14th-23rd)

Also we are to be screened at a Special Screening event at the Quest Europe Film Festival in Zielona Gora, Poland this summer. Dates are to be confirmed but watch this space for more details...

Charlie's Holiday - The Best of BUSHO 3 - And the rest...

Time passes and once again all good things come to an end...and this was one hell of a festival. The people loved our little film - and we were the only film in the festival to get an applause from the audience. The humour translated well into a different culture and in fact it has given me a new impetus with regards to Caution Wet Paint. The future is bright, the future is milky...

And so I bought a ticket out of Budapest. The beautiful Keleti Pályaudvar was to be my final sight of this great capital. A ticket out to a different city, to a different country, a new destination. But I felt that I was leaving something behind. Something fun and joyous - a moment in my life that I would not be able to recapture. Budapest was special to me, in so many ways. It was a place where I got to interact with audience, film makers and festival organisers as an equal. I was able to learn so much from this fantastic festival. A lot was put into the organisation of BUSHO, and I got a hell of a lot out of it! What I learned from Budapest has accelerated my film making more than any other festival or seminar in my small film making career.



But it was not all filming. There were little gems hidden in the streets and the backwaters of the city. Some are more popular destinations, littered with tourists, others are parts reached by the many.



And culture that is so accessible. In London, we are so consumed by our own petty lives, that we rarely take time out to enjoy the city. Even here in Budapest, I did not spend as much time as I wanted immersed in the local culture. Budapest is a beautiful city, and a wonderful place to spend a few days. I spent a week here, I wish it was a lot longer. But like all good things, they must come back to an end. Already, I have been back for two days in London, and I remember very little of my life in East Europe. The sights, the smells, even the currency now a long and distant memory. Travel is great for the sould but it can also be heartbreaking when you leave. And that is what I feel about Budapest. However, I now will never get Budapest and Bucharest confused as I did in the past. Two wonderful cities, and as I left Budapest onward to the Romanian capital, my journey was tinged with a little sadness. I do not cry, but inside, I wept as I left this wonderful city. Thank you BUSHO and thank you Budapest for the memories and the wonderful time that I spent here. And I hope one day to return, a little bit wiser (hopefully) and a lot more successful (the dream)...

Now the festival is over, the party has finished, and the film makers from across Europe head off home to a life a little more ordinary, but a lot more fulfilled.

More importantly, what did Hungary think of Jay and Kay?

What did they think of the milk?



The most terrifying thing for a film maker is to not get a reaction from an audience. And comedy - well, there is only one reaction you are looking for, and if it is not received then you hang your head in shame...



But they loved it! A packed cinema, and here is something that was great for the lot of us. The only film where the audience clapped - really clapped at the end of the credits. And trust me, I saw virtually every film screened and the audience was in stitches. From beginning, threough the cartoons and right at the end with Captain Goldtop's laugh. We entertained.

Damn straight. Who ever said milk was good for you?

I'm off, again - to save the world...

That's it, old faithful - this backpack has taken my belongings round the world a few times and has done me proud. Back in the day, before 9/11 when it was possible to take penknives and shampoo in your hand luggage, I traveled much lighter. But as I now need these essentials with me, I dump this sack of crap in the hold and head off to the cabin with a morsel of hand baggage. Plus now, being part of the jet set group, I actually take a lap top with me.

Will I be online? Probably not. Personally, I love the privacy of being on holiday, even though this is very much a working vacation. If I can get a hold of some Wi-Fi, I may send a posting, but other than that, I am off to join Jay and Kay and Save the World at the Budapest Short Film Festival!

When I get back, I will have travel tales to fill this blog out for a month. Then, of course, I will need a new place to venture too...

Patchy

This blog has been shockingly patchy. Well, for good reason - I have been promoting 'Caution Wet Paint' at festivals. I will be off again on Tuesday, this time to Hungary to promote Caution Wet Paint in Budapest. My second jaunt to the former Eastern Bloc, and not only will the adventures of Jay and Kay be screening on a huge cinema screen, I will also be in the beautiful surroundings of Hungary's capital. A double treat of movies and sightseeing.

When I get back, I will report fully on what I saw and experienced in both Strasbourg and what I will experience in Eastern Europe.

It is weird doing so much work on Jay and Kay Save the World again after so many months have passed, but such is the nature of film. Plus, I am enjoying it like crazy, revisiting those two crazy characters and their mad antics.

Caution Wet Paint in Strasbourg

Strasbourg was one hell of a town and a great place to while a way a few days while at the same time watching films by other film makers as well as myself. As the first (of what I hope) to be many film festivals, the Strasbourg Film Festival was small and cosy just like the town itself. More importantly, there was an audience to see my film.

Now, for any film maker, this is the most nerve wracking part of the whole process. What does the audience think. Are they going to laugh or do they think that this is a dumb film. Terrifying. I was sitting in the screening room, before my film, heart pumping, thinking, damn comedy doesn't travel well!

But the comedy did travel well. The audience laughed. Not all the time, but they did laugh, and they seemed to enjoy it. And thank goodness, I entertained - the primary motive of any film maker.

And even more important - they liked the characters. People said to me afterwards, where did you find those guys, they're funny! And thank goodness.

It was here...Caution Wet Paint - At Strasbourg!

I am back very briefly, before heading out next week to Budapest for Caution Wet Paint's screening at BUSHO in Hungary.

And the festival went well, 'Jay and Kay Save the World' was received well, and if I get time, I will put up a quick blog to explain as much as possible.

But now need to conk out - I feel like a business traveler, just without the expense account, strip clubs or business class seats...

At the Movies with Caution Wet Paint!

12 months ago I finished the editing of Jay and Kay Save the World and we have gone from this:



to our first public screenuings of the world's greatest (and wackiest) short film!

Now I am ready for Caution Wet Paint's premiere at the Strasbourg International Film Festival on Wednesday, plus next week's fun at the Budapest Short Film Festival. It has been two years since the last public airing of the paint and many things have changed since then. However, it validates the hard work ad dedication from all that were involved with the making of the film.

I still have to pack my bags, but at least cash wise, I am all sorted out. Someone's going on holiday!

(I will be keeping you all updated while I am in France and Hungary, when I get the chance to access the web).

Good News Everyone (and some 'post' news)

Caution Wet Paint: Jay and Kay Save the World is in our second film festival. We will be screening at the dual-continental Strasbourg Film Festival. Two continents, as they start in France and head off to Florida in September when they go 'Nomadic'.

This is huge for us. CWP (and myself) have this year, gone to festivals beyond the UK, and have finally had our first glimpse of North American screenings. May the pattern (and the subsequent glory) continue to flow!



Fantastic news for us, and hell, we deserve it! CWP is the greatest and where else can you get milk bottles trying to invade earth along with a comedic duo who can do more than the funky chicken!

On other notes, 'Irfan' is going great in terms of editing, should finish the film edit by this week.

Good News Everyone!

Jay and Kay Save the World has got into a film festival! And this is my first international one, in Hungary, at the Budapest Short Film Festival. Originally I was planning a quick trip to India this September, but that has now been superseded. And seeing that I have never visited Hungary in my life, I think now is as good a time as any to pop the cherry and head to this magnificent city to have fun, love The Paint and generally frolic around!

It has been one hell of a battle to get into the festivals this year, so I am ecstatic that we are premiering CWP in such a beautiful location. Budapest is truly one of the more magnificent parts of Europe and as I have never been to this part of the world before it give the traveler in me a great chance to explore a new part of the world...

After so long, why have I decided to revisit CWP? Well, do not confuse a lack of internet output with a killing off of the project. CWP is far from dead, and I have been doing a lot of work behind the scenes. A hell of a lot.

Some of this work has not paid off, but some has. I am under no illusions that there is so much more to do. But (and herein lies the rub) some things may come to fruition.
