Sunday Thrills!

Wow! I forgot how nice May is in the UK, given that we have had two years of washouts. I especially like this time of the year, as I can cycle to and from work in the daylight. Having just got back in the house just now, it was great not to worry about lights etc and the early morning breeze is lovely to the lungs.

But, I must get going again. As always, I am a busy director, especially as I am back on the radio after a month off. I hope I have not forgotten how to play a tune ;)

'Soundscaping'

First job, before you clean up the sound, sort out your edit. My soundtrack on an edit is normally all over the place. My mind can actually make sense of the mess, but seeing as I was about to correct the damn thing, it was a good idea to sort it out. So my Soundtrack went from this:

to this:

It may not look much different to the untrained eye and it does sound exactly the same, but there is now a logic to my sound cuts as a result of this.

And yes, this took me a whole day!

Idiots!

I leave Plov for one minute and on my return, what do I find out? Everyone is an idiot! Beguiled by their own complete incompetency, I am shocked to be associated with such impotent devils! To call them colleagues would be an insult to my own greatness, nay not perceived but the actual regality of my own superior intellect! Why they all deserved to be crushed in the grinding machine of glass recycling and to be finely distributed as beach material for Dubai's latest folly such is my appreciation of their own skills and talents. Imbeciles! Idiots! Impotents! I hate you all!

Hit the Ground Runing

So feeling well rested and actually up at a reasonable time despite the jet lag, El Director hits the ground running. After the editing, now comes the colour correction. As I already did a great deal of correction with regards to the last short film, The Railway Tracks, this should be a doddle.

Really.

So because of the 'doddle factor' I have decided to go for sound correction first. Why? Sound is more important visuals. You see, the viewer will forgive a dodgy shot, but a sharp change in sound will always be noticed.

Join me on the journey - sound cleaning...and believe it or not, I am really looking forward to this. It will be the first time I am attempting to clean up sound this way, so the journey will be fun to do!

El Director is back

Once again, thanks to Olivia for sticking up my random blog posts dispersed with her own witticisms. India was beautiful, but you can see more of what happened to me while in India here on my own blog. However, I could not leave without one pic from Assam itself:

Speak to you all properly tomorrow! (El D)

Diva

Hello bloggers,

Ok, so it has been an interesting week for me. I have managed to get some bling in a new shop in Covent Garden which am thrilled about, and looking for more potential buyers...Diva!!!!

Ok, so onto CWP, as you know, we have just recently finished filming a new feature called 'Caution, Wet Paint: Jay and Kay Save the World'. It was beautiful to film, and I really enjoyed it. It had been a long time since I had been on the film set, and I have to say, that it is my favourite part of filming - looking at the development of the script and its characters.

I love looking at all the intricate things that happen off the set i.e. preparing dough balls as ammunition for our new all dancing, all singing milk bottles...

...phew those guys have serious diva issues, and have been a handful to look after (don't tell them what I said ok, cause they tend to throw stuff around the room and are quite temperamental!) ahem, anyway yes, so as you can see, one of my more important roles is to look after our cast and crew....will tell you more about that in the next blog!

El Director woz ere

So I will return to the UK. And hopefully I will hit the ground running. Hopefully I will know what I want and even better, know how to get it. I will also need to be focused. There are deadlines looming, and having a holiday at this time was probably a fatal judgement error on my part. Still, a little bit of R&R never does any harm to the body, mind or soul...

La Producer Dreams

Hello Bloggers,

La Producer here...well I am definitely missing Jay and Kay and their adventures. I remember when we first began, the shoots in the east end, and all the fun and preparation involved.

One of my favourite blogs, was the second in the series of websiodes, when Jay found Kay on his stairwell....

I need this Break

Caution Wet Paint. A story about two Londoners: Jay, a frustrated comic book artist, and Kay, a crazed postman.

But I need a break from them. It can be quite intensive to be working for three months solid on the both of them, and if you include all the pre-production faffing, this project has been nearly a year in the making.

I am going to enjoy this holiday!

Questions and Thoughts

So I came, I saw, I went. But will I return to India or is once bitten, twice shy, the adage that I will follow? India is a land of contrasts and a land who's culture I absolutely love. But will I actually enjoy the country I am travelling to? Or will I be haunted by it. It may be unfair to judge the country either way, after all I am only visiting a tiny part o this vast land. Well, whatever my view, I will be telling all on my return...

Travelling

For those that know me well, they are surprised that I have spent an inordinate amount of time in the country.

For those that don't know me that well, I do like to travel. I often surprise myself at the places I have managed to get in and out of, but I have taken advantage of my passport in order to see some of the more far flung parts of the world.

And so, while yu read this, I am somewhere in North East India, travelling. Have I yet reached the tiny hill state of Tripura or have I become bogged down in rainy Meghalaya.? Or have the hills of Assam attracted me to the tea country and beyond? All will be revealed on my return...

El Director Calling from India

Hello La Producer here, well after speaking to El Director on the phone from India, I am delivering you his blog of the day, with a cup of Chai. Enjoy!

So, after five weeks of wall-to-wall editing, I need a break.

Firstly, do not underestimate my short attention span. To edit that long, continuously, is phenomenal for someone with my tiny brain capacity. And yes, I am quite proud of my creation, but boy do I still have a lot of work to do.

Oh well, thank goodness for the holiday. It has been a year since I have been abroad and in all reality the last time I have really 'got away' was back in 2004 when I visited Slovenia. Yep, back in those heady days, I was a film maker bubbling with dreams and enthusiasm and about to set out on my first short film, 'The Fight'. I have come a fair distance since then, and to look back on my own personal trials and tribulations during the intervening years is humbling. I still have a lot to learn, but I have felt that I have gathered so much information since then. Not exactly from Zero to hero just yet, but I definitely started right at the bottom of the pile...

El Director woz ere

So as you read this blog, I will be somewhere in North East India. Yes, El Director through the power of the net, still blogs wherever he goes! Or does he?

Well, in fact this was written before I left for India. When I go abroad I switch off, and when I mean switch off, I go completely silent. I do not want to spend my time in an internet cafe, or trying to get a Wi-Fi connection. Instead I want to live. Eat great food, experience great women, travel to the most back-of-beyond places imaginable and generally have a holiday. which for me does not involve relaxation, but exploration!

So there will be blogs on this website. Of course there would be, I love 'the paint' too much for me not to blog. But what about the tales of what is happening to me right now? Well, that will have to wait until the end of the month!

Saturday 9 May 2009

toodles!

Yes! I, El Director, am off on holiday, to chill and to will the wonders of the world upon myself. Why not, I deserve the break. But fear not, this wondrous blog will still be pumping out some of the coolest witticisms to found on the 'www' while I am gone, thanks to the power of copy and paste and some hastily written blog posts that have been meticulously written.

So don't forget to get your daily dose of milk with 'Caution Wet Paint' and let the blogging continue!

A significant milestone for El Director

This image could be one of the most important points along the road of Jay and Kay Save the World. For at long last, I have finished the editing. Five weeks after the final live action shooting days, along with a few re-shoots and voice overs the editing process has pretty much come to an end.

And yep, this film hits the ten minute mark including credits. That is a phenomenally huge short film. But for me, I have always viewed this project as a featurette, something which shows the potential of CWP as something more than a series of shorts. Hence the almost epic lengths I am so far tackling.

But this does not mean that the post production sequence is finished. Next comes the colour correction and just as importantly the cleaning up of the soundtrack.

In the editing process I get the final picture that I want, the pace of the film and the sound at an appropriate level. For the colour correction, I had a little life into the picture quality and in the sound correction, I smooth out the bumps and clean up the background static that is prevalent in the recording process. That is going to be a hard task, but it is something I will do after my holiday...

El Director Vlogs away!

What I have to say for the week!

As you can see, I do a catch up for the week, and there are a great range of vlogs on offer from some great guys - check them out!

On other news, I thoroughly enjoyed The Hunt For Gollum and so do take look at it when you get the chance!

Half a Second of Pain

Ten bloody frames!

Do not even ask why ten frames means so much, but in layman's terms, that is less than half a second. That is it, and I have to rejig the whole bloody scene!

Grrr!

Lord of the Rings (Part IV)

I have to really admire these guys, and my eyes will be glued to the screen today at 4pm! Take a look, it is The Hunt for Gollum! I happened across it yesterday in the news and I am so there today...

La Producer: Viva la musica!

(Coco de Mer Earrings designed by La Producer)

Hello!

Right, as you can see, this week, we have been focusing a lot on the editing and post production process of making a film, and I particularly enjoyed the last vlog from El Director.

Further to these vlogs and blogs, I wanted to look at the importance of music in a film. For myself, music, is like chilli sauce with my meals - incomplete. The same goes for the music in Caution, Wet Paint.

Nick Peck is the man behind the CWP music, and if you have not heard his compositions for CWP already, then you need to watch one of our CWP Dance webisodes and feel the music!!

Caution, Wet Paint The Movie, is all about having fun, so forget the blues and listen to this: CLICK HERE xoxo

A lot of Vlogs?

You have seen shocking amount of videos looking behind the scenes and there will be more coming from the stable. Some are out takes, some were purposely filmed for webisode broadcast, but there is also another reason why I shot them...to be seen...
